Boat Asia 2008 Charity Gala Dinner
I guess there are many first times for everyone. I had a first time too – Backstage rubbing bodies with dressers, hula dancers, fire eaters, models and piles of I.S merchandise. As the title of this entry suggested and a friend wanted me to update him cos he had never been to one. =)
The venue was at St. Regis – the newest 5 Star luxury Hotel set in in Tanglin road comparable to Fullerton and Ritz etc. It was grand grand grand. Chandeliers were sooo pretty, just one could easily fill up my whole living room. Washroom check- Napkins at every basin nicely ironed and rolled up not forgetting hand lotions and lots of pinky stained mirrors for decor and clear body long ones for vain pots. Marbled tilings and carpeting down to the very detail – I have to say they really made the Hotel looked extremely expensive but my feel was only “okay”.
Back to the I.S Fashion show – Runway rehearsals started 7 hours before including sound, lighting and video checks. this guy was cue-ing the models the whole time blasting his voice over the mic. “channel 1 go, channel 2 go. Next model standby. model go” So if you are a model – your name is officially Model. =) Anyways – as what my boss said they are just human hangers for clothes with blessed body proportions so my excitement level declined when it was time for their Make-Up. Having to sit and observe them for 3 whole hours was painfully boring. Bloodie cold too. Thanks to Yati from IS. Paragon, her company was more enjoyable.
The call for the show started and we had to make our way through to the back stage by the kitchen (i cant believe it but its the kitchen) so we saw what those stupid and ridiculously high-net-worth-individuals (HNWI) were going to eat. After smelling of food it was backstage, the models started dressing up and queuing for the walk. My job was easy helping out whenever I could; the dressers would help dress the models at rapid speed and I would check that the accessories, apparels, hair whatever was in place should be in place. The back stage was sooooo crammed and I had to shuffle here and there rubbing bodies with models. Each model has 5 changes of clothes with accessories… GOODGRACIOUSNESS! Each rack had 2 model’s clothes. So yup mad rush. some of the dressers were rather gan chiong. It was like – “This goes on the hair, where’s the pink bikini!!!, bracelets for this girl!” Some girl models were obviously not shy showing their assets to us while some had stick-on bras. Ditto about the guy models: I was not in-charge of the guy models but girls and guys were in different areas.
In all. A runway is just a runway and so is a fashion show. Just need a “first time” to cool the “glam-ness” of it. My sister commented that I have the coolest job – I differed. Its just my 3 month internship and like what Walter said if he were a Wal-mart greeter, “Welcome! Get your shit and get out!” HAHA!
Am currently interning for Tangs under I.S. Surprisingly enough I like some of the look of the clothes and I always feel like buying them. I just spoke to my big boss about my job scope – it’s Huemangus! Little worried about the depth of my research given limited time. its 14 weeks and Im outta Singapore! But during this period (now 13 weeks left) I’m going to make it WORK!
I’ve seen the surface of what marcoms and branding is about and I asked myself whether this is something I want to do. Note aside, spending most of my nights with Chip and I’d wanna smolder him with all my love (forever and a day) before I leave. He’s growing up so rapidly that I’d miss him so much when I’m not around. Cherish whatever is around you – for what it is now may not be there tomorrow.
So let the Social Butterfly shine on! (I hope I dun get too depressed doing this)
There’s an event today – Marina @ Keppel Bay, Boat Asia 2008 yet another FS to go to. Im dying for Sunday to arrive.
Updated again on 27 April 2008
I braved the hot mid-day sun and arrived at Reflections spending a good ole 4 hours sitting and watching models do their make-up. After arriving at Keppel Bay, it was backstage on a Barrage on water! the F.S was held on a platform thingy on water. So it goes up and down, making one feel very whoosie. This run was so much better than on Friday’s because there were more space and we could actually see what what the models was wearing. I had a treat at least – I was helping to dress the male models. HA!
I went home rather upset. felt like crying. several reasons. i hope it will be a better week ahead.
My thanks to God for a lady from the Philippines (I think she’s a maid working for a family staying at the Carribeans). God bless her kind heart for sharing her umbrella with me while waiting for the traffic. I was extremely touched.

So cool… I also want to go… bring mee! From the looks of it you are having a great school break.
Hey Jas! thks for popping by! Its not very fun when it the backstage kind… its LOCO (span. for crazy) behind the scene.
im starting my Week 13 countdown to Monterrey! Whooohoooo!
You still have 1 summer term mod to go right? what are you doing now?
